Conservation is an intergral part of our lives on Rhenosterkop Farm.
The Farm is at the base of Paarl Mountain, bordering the Paarl Mountain
Nature Reserve and thus part of a World Heritage area that contains
much of the mere 3% of renosterveld left in the country.
The family want to assist in conserving this area and have designated 184 ha of pristine Swartland shale renosterveld as a “Contract Conservation Area”with Cape Nature. This will conserve the renosterveld and granite fynbos on the farm for future generations to enjoy.
Conservation is also a vital part of the terroir of Black Pearl Wines. Without the renosterveld the soil on our farm would not be filled with enough nutrients or moisture, there would be terrible soil erosion and Black Pearl Wines just wouldn't be the same!
