Lance & winemaker, Mary-Lou, join Humanitarian Convoy.

Kingsley Holgate and his family plan to travel around the outside edge of the African continent distributing nets for malaria prevention, a continuation of his 'One Net . One Life’ campaign. In addition, they are to provide spectacles to the sight impaired and educational materials for schools.
The send-off group of Land Rovers assembled at Cape Point and formed a convoy behind the Holgates to travel along the magnificent coastline, over Chapman’s Peak, through
Cape Town , ending at the jamboree at De Grendel Wine Estate.
The total number of Land Rovers was 347, so getting us a place in the Guiness Book of Records.
Rain threatened to spoil the day but even that plus some dubious organisation (the large turnout contributed) in no way dampened the spirits of all of us that came to wish this expedition well. At the jamboree venue we were given complimentary Captain Morgan rum mixed with either coke or Red Bull and liberal amounts of Nando’s chicken with their sauces, straight from the grill.
Mary-Lou and I were privileged to meet the ‘Greybeard of Africa’ and found him to be impressive in stature, charming and charismatic.
At Black Pearl Wines we raise our glasses and drink a toast to the success of ‘The outside Edge Expedition” |
