Alien clearing is an ongoing process on the farm and in the Rhenosterkop Reserve.
On Tuesday 17th June, a group came from Cape Nature on a field day to discuss alien removals and to see how we are getting on.
On Thursday 19th June, Hermien returned with an erosion control expert who gave advice on combating our extensive erosion problems.

Around our dam was a mixture of Port Jackson which has now been mostly eradicated and Sesbania punicea.
The Sesbania above shoulder height has been cut down and the stumps treated with Garlon tagged with blue dye. The lower growth was sprayed with a 0.5% mixture of garlon and water. We are now monitoring the results.
Fortunately, we were able to spray when the wind was calm and the water level in the dam was low. |
